Differences Between Social Research and Social Survey

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SOCIAL RESEARCH AND SOCIAL SURVEY

Although both social survey and social research deal with social aspects of a society and appear to be similar, there exist some differences between these two methods, which are shown

below:

Social Research

1. Social research is concerned with general problems.

2. It is concerned with long-term research and problems. Social Survey

3. Social research is usually conducted not on a professional basis.

4. Formulation of hypotheses is considered essential.

5. Social research is scientific in nature.

6. Hypotheses are developed on the basis of a social survey, and thereby theories are constructed.

7. Social research culminates either in the formulation of theories or the modification of old concepts, or even the discovery of more refined techniques.

Social Survey

4. Hypotheses may or may not be formulated in a social survey.

5. Social survey is practical and utilitarian in nature.

6. It forms the basis of hypotheses.

7. The consequences of social surveys are oriented towards social reform or administrative transformation.
