ISSUES AND PROBLEMS FACED BY WOMEN IN INDIA

Taking birth as a woman in the Indian society can be said as a curse for the women. Female infanticide is the most common practice of killing girl children in mother’s womb in the Indian society. Women in India are considered as burden for their parents and husbands as they think that women are here only to consume money whole life without earning a little bit.
Another common problem for women is sex determination which they face from the birth and continues till their death illiteracy, lack of proper education, responsibility for the household work, rape, sexual harassment at work place etc. are some big issues for the women in India. However, a lot of positive changes have occurred in the status of women as the number of educated people is increasing in the country.
Women in the Indian society have been considered as inferior as men for many years. Because of such type of inferiority they have to face various issues and problems in their life. They have to go extra miles than men to prove themselves equivalent to men. Still there are many parents who prefer to have only boy baby and allow education to boy only. Women for them are only medium to keep family happy and healthy.
There are various issues and problems which women generally face in the society in India. Some of the problems are mentioned are described below –
i.      SELECTIVE ABORTION AND FEMALE INFANTICIDE. It is the most common practice for years in Indi in which abortion of female foetus is performed in the womb of mother after the foetal sex determination and sex selective abortion by the medical professionals.
ii.      SEXUAL HARASSMENT. It is the form of sexual exploitation of a girl child at home, streets, public places, transports, offices, etc. by the family members, neighbor, friends or relatives.
iii.      DOWRY AND BRIDE BURNING. It is another problem generally faced by woman of low or middle class family during or after the marriage. A parent of boy’s family demands a lot of money from the bride’s family. Groom’s family performs bride burning in-case of lack of fulfilled dowry demand.
iv.      CHILD MARRIAGE. Early marriage of the girls by their parents in order to be escaped from dowry. It is highly practiced in the rural India.
v.      STATUS OF WIDOWS. Widows are considered as worthless in the Indian society. They are treated poorly and forced to wear white clothes.
CONCLUSION
Female children are often most at risk when it comes to poverty, lack of education and violence. Female children are also at risk from gendered threats such as female foeticide, forced marriage, gender based violence, and child marriage. As such, it is important to take care of girl children and to give them all of the opportunities that they need to succeed in life.
We belong to the modern generation of humanity. We seek an environment where every human-being is considered free. We seek an environment where every unborn child is welcomed without any gender bias.
Mahatma Gandhi gave the slogan of ‘do or die’ to his countrymen for the cause of their motherland. The unborn girl-child is also seeking similar spirit among the countrymen in support of her cause.
