THEODORE M. NEWCOMB’S MODEL

The fear of Corona (Covid-19) in our country made a distance apart from the Teachers-Students relationship. Even distance apart new Techno Education made a bridge to reach each corner of our country. How is this possible? This is possible through a triangular model and represented chiefly on interpersonal communication. This model is called “Newcomb’s Model”.

This model assumes significances in the light of Teachers-Students relationship in increasing needs on online classes for information. Newcomb’s model works in a triangular format or ABX system.

A – Sender (Teachers)

B – Receiver (Students)

X – Matter of Concern of their social environment (Policy/Issues)

1.     Internal Relations are interdependent:

a)     If A changes, B and X will change as well.

b)    If A changes his relationship to X, B will have to change either his relationship with X or with A.

2.     In Equilibrium:

a)     If A and B have a similar attitude to X then equilibrium will take place.

b)    But if A likes X and B does not, then A and B will be under pressure to communicate until both adopt a similar attitude to X.

c)     Here, the more significant a place X has in the matter of concern to the social environment, the more urgent will be their drive to share an orientation towards it.

So, Teachers (A) can convince students (B) as much as possible. Otherwise, they have to make some adjustments in the Policy/Issues (X) and convince them towards the policy/issues. This model can bring change in information to identify their problems and share their communication with their fellow members and know-how to reach.
